Welcome to my channel, I started woodworking with my grandpa as a young kid. I continued woodworking via senior high school, and started woodturning after seeing a turned task in a friends shop. A few of my fondest memories are working with my grandpa in his timber shop. Being able to share our enthusiasm for woodworking, connects everything together.

  1. Great video!  You mentioned a link for help in making the tool holder.  I cannot find that link.  Could you repost it?  Thanks.

  2. you make it look too easy THANKS

  3. Carl is probably the best source of info on turning on youtube! Thank You!

  4. I very like your wood turning tools.

  5. hello, i have a 5/8″ drive bench grinder. im having trouble finding a wheel that with fit or even an adaptor for a 3/4″ wheel. some wheels that ive found  come with plastic bushings but ive never heard anything good about them. if you could offer any help it would be much appreciated. thanks

  6. If the tool is to hot to touch you are ruining it by removing the temper.  I always keep my finger on the tool and if it gets uncomfortably hot I quench the tool.  It takes a little longer but my tools last longer.

  7. As an alternative,  I just sharpened my skew and parting tools on a fine DMT diamond stone… both now are wonderfully sharp, and it didn’t takr too long. I suspect I’ll need a grinder for my other tools though!

  9. Belas ferramentas, aqui no Brasil não temos estas qualidades, parabéns

  10. Thanks for tutorial…..

You have lots of jigs made up but where can we get these jigs?

    Thanks….

edit;  I’ve stopped turning because I am spending more time (trying to!)sharpen tools than turning!

  11. Tanks Carl… I appreciate your time and the info. Btw, Happy New Year

  12. Nothing like a great set of rests to make a grinder a dream to use.

  13. What grit on those grinding wheels are you using?

    1. I think these were 80 and 120

  14. I was curious about the skew chisel grind. Mine came with a straight edge, and I see that you have a slight curve. Is that a personal preference? Or is there a specific reason?

    1. It was just a personal preference, mine came with a straight edge as well. I have switched back to the straight edge.

  15. Larry mentioned it earlier, but it should be stressed to make sure that the metal does not overheat.  Keep a container of water to cool the steel if it gets too hot to touch.  If it does and you don’t know how to temper it, you may have to grind it down to get rid of the discoloration and then reshape the edge.  Don’t rush.

  16. great job…..i want to work with you

    1. Thank you!

  17. you welcome sir

  18. very nice sharpening the tools i like very much sir.👍

    1. Thank you Deven!

  19. Do you have any recommendations on how to remove the burr on both the flute side and the bevel side?

    1. I would use a piece of 600 grit sandpaper.

    2. Thanks! I’ll get some and look for something else to wrap that will approximate flute. Maybe I should make it out of wood and sand it to fit.
